Tyson Reese Obituary

On the morning of April 8, 2024, Tyson James Reese passed away at the age of forty. Tyson was born September 21, 1983, in Youngstown, Oh, a son of Dale Reese and Justine VanSteenberg.

A graduate of Western Reserve High School in 2002, Tyson played multiple sports as a youngster but was a standout member of the Blue Devils golf team during his high school career. He received many accolades as a member of the WR golf team that would carry over to the numerous leagues he had played in over the years.

After graduation Tyson was a ‘jack of all trades’ sort, first working for several years at his grandfather’s shop, Smith’s Body Shop. He then ventured into the kitchen where he held positions as a cook at several restaurants, most notably ‘Rays 62’ in Alliance and ‘The Fifth Season’ in Austintown. He would then circle back to his true love of cars as a body man at ‘Mike’s Complete Auto’ in Youngstown.

Tyson was an active member of the American Legion for over 20 years not only working steak and fish fries but also tossing on the Easter Bunny suit for all the kids at the Easter party and even dressing as a Leprechaun at the St. Patty’s Day party, maybe even for his own amusement.

Tyson was also a passionate sports fan! He was one of the biggest Cleveland Browns fans you would ever meet and also rooted hard for his Cleveland Indians. He was also a die-hard Michigan Wolverines fan and was elated when they FINALLY not only beat the OSU Buckeyes but won the National Championship this past year.

Not only an avid golfer, but Tyson also had other hobbies that he excelled at. He was an unbelievable angler. Fishing was a true passion for him growing up at Diehl Lake in Berlin Center. He always caught the biggest fish in the lake, but sometimes tossed them back before the measuring tape came out. Also, a hunter, Tyson excelled at getting in the woods and hunkering down to wait for the perfect shot and, on occasion, would bring home a deer to cook up. This also led to his passion for cooking. There was never a time that I would call to ask how to cook something before he gave me a manual on how to do so. In Tyson’s words “If it’s cooked right, you don’t need a sauce.” He also enjoyed spending time with family playing corn hole, our Chex-Mix parties, and serious games of horse.

Tyson had one of the biggest hearts. He was always willing to help. He loved all his grandparents dearly and helped them as much as he was able. He also loved all his nieces and nephew dearly. He absolutely loved his family and friends and would always lend help if needed.

Tyson was the type of person to make an impression whether he was trying to or not. So many people will miss his calls, texts, and even his shenanigans. To the person that tried to fix my tee shot, to the person that told me smoked paprika is mandatory spice in my cabinet, and the person that taught me how to reverse sear a steak; we will miss you dearly.

Tyson will be missed greatly by his mother Justine (Gary) VanSteenberg; father Dale Reese and step-mother Beth Reese; grandfather Jim Smith; grandmother Lonna Smith; brother Cody (Cathy) Reese; nephew Crew; niece London; step-sister Koree (Shan) Sharma; nieces Sydnee, Lettie, Aliza, and Shivani; step-sister Aimee (Scott) Burrier; nephew Travis; niece Alexis, and an entire family full of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that will always remember the best of times with Tyson.

We will be having a celebration of life to celebrate Tyson’s life on May 4, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Sebring American Legion, 395 California Ave, Sebring, OH 44672.
